Weight Loss Surgery/Bariatrics
The weight loss surgery program at Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento, was started in 1999, and has helped hundreds of patients successfully lose weight and maintain the weight loss needed to achieve a healthy active lifestyle. Dr. Steven Patching has been performing advanced laparoscopic cases since 1993. He has more than ten years experience performing laparoscopic Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass, and laparoscopic Gastric Bands. Patients who are 100 pounds over their ideal weight or who have a body mass index (BMI) greater than 35 may benefit from one of the surgical procedures mentioned.

Putting a team on your side
Your Bariatric team will work together to design and coordinate a program that is as individual as you are. There are no cookie-cutter diets, and no high-priced foods to buy. You'll receive a personal plan that best fits your lifestyle. Your weight management team holds monthly informational seminars, pre-operative education classes, and support groups for surgical and non-surgical candidates. Education and motivation will help support and maintain your success! Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass | return

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery can be performed as either an open or laparoscopic procedure. Laparoscopy is considered a better option for many patients because it is less invasive, typically requires only a two-day hospital stay, and the recovery time is shorter.

Laparoscopic Gastric Bands | return

The adjustable gastric band procedure is the least invasive. It involves placing an adjustable silicone band around the top of the part of the stomach. The lap-band may be adjusted after surgery to promote maximum weight loss without side effects. Patients typically stay in the hospital only overnight.
