    Adult Services
The reputation for excellence in cardiac care and surgery has resulted in Sutter receiving many of the higher-risk and re-operative cases in the area. In spite of treating patients that have above-average complexity, the outcomes for treatment have been consistently recognized as outstanding by prominent California and national review agencies.

    Standard Treatments
Many physicians think of Sutter as the place to refer the most serious or complex cases. But Sutter offers a full range of traditional services, handling more than 600 coronary bypass surgeries each year and 500 valve repairs and replacements. The treatment program, with its three catheterization labs, provides full diagnostic, therapeutic and intraoperative mapping electrophysiology and the complete range of catheterization therapies. We are one of the top hospitals in the nation for low morbidity and mortality as a result of coronary bypass surgeries.

    Cardiovascular Pioneers
Dr. Edward Smeloff, one of Sutter's pioneering surgeons, developed and implanted the first artificial heart valve, responsible for helping thousands of patients worldwide. In recent years, Sutter cardiovascular surgeons have contributed significantly to the national study exploring - and confirming - the benefits of using the Holmium laser for patients with inoperable coronary arteries, also called transmyocardial laser revascularization. The surgeons also brought endoscopic vein harvesting and minimally invasive coronary artery surgery to the Sacramento region.
